Worry Wart

Lately, It’s felt like a lot of people in my life have been caught in a whirlwind of worry. Whether it be about their jobs, current relationships, past relationships, school, adulting… life in general. (And no duh, every single person in the world struggles with this daily!)

We have all probably give the ever popular advice:

Go with the flow, everything happens for a reason! (Such original advice).

“Go with the flow” is the last thing I’d ever expect good ole Jesus to say, but if you think about it – everything regarding the idea of faith and God is just that.

Going with the flow suggests a light attitude. It suggests moving on from one thing to the next. It suggests rolling with the punches and taking little to heart. It suggests being malleable and open. More than anything, it suggests an element of trust that everything is going to be okay.

Worrying is like a rocking chair, it gives you something to do, but it gets you nowhere.

Some of the most common life sayings link back to faith and God and I don’t think any of us have ever realized it:

Everything happens for a reason

Two wrongs don’t make a right.

“Actions speak louder than words.”

“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.”

“When the going gets tough, the tough get going.”

“Better late than never.”

“God helps those who help themselves.”

“Beggars can’t be choosers.”

* I was going to write how I think each of these quotes relates to faith, but I think it may be a little more personal to let you make the connection.

“Going with the flow” and believing that “Everything happens for a reason” are both so simple, yet so complicated when you think about applying them to your current worry/situation. Both ideas require a large amount of trust. Even if you aren’t religious, I’m sure you’ve used these ideas to help you get through things. We have to TRUST that there is something bigger. TRUST that things are going to be okay. TRUST that we CAN get through anything. TRUST that God already has it handled.

This TRUST means letting go of control and taking signs as they come. Letting people leave your life when its obvious they don’t deserve to be there.  Letting go of destructive thoughts that might put a damper on your day. Stop trying to force situations that are doing you more harm then it is good.

Can you remember the things you were worried about this day, last year? I doubt it. And that because you were able to get through whatever what plaguing your mind. God already had this planned for you. And here you are a year later as living proof that things will always be okay. Trust that. Trust Him. Give your worries, your aches, your pains, your anxieties, your negative thoughts to Him and the pressure will be taken off of you.

Somethings that seem so simple are so tough, but if you are living, breathing and believing in God – there is no need to worry because he will handle your problems. We can take a deep breath and relax!
